GovBot Environmental Site Context service
This host runs the read-only service behind GovBot Environmental Site Context. The service prepares source-linked briefs of mapped wetlands, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service critical habitat and nearby U.S. Environmental Protection Agency facility records at a public research point. These are screening records, not a clearance decision.
For what the product does, how to use it and its limitations, see the product guide.
Plugin status: in preparation. The plugin has not been submitted to or published in ChatGPT and is not available there. Check the product guide for current plugin status.
Runtime service and plugin availability
These are two different things:
- Runtime service (MCP)
- The technical endpoint that a compatible client connects to. Endpoint:
https://environment-api.govbot.ai/mcp. A working endpoint does not mean the plugin is listed, approved or available anywhere. - Plugin availability
- Whether the plugin appears in ChatGPT under the listing name GovBot Environmental Context is decided separately by OpenAI. The plugin is in preparation, has not been submitted or published, and is not available at this time.
No sign-in, API key, payment or subscription is required to use the service.
Read-only tools
The service offers six read-only tools. None of them change any agency record.
get_wetlands_near_point- National Wetlands Inventory polygons near a public point.
get_critical_habitat_near_point- FWS final and proposed critical habitat near a public point, kept separate.
get_epa_facilities_near_point- EPA ECHO facility search results near a public point.
get_epa_facility_compliance- EPA Detailed Facility Report information for one 12-digit EPA Registry ID.
get_site_environmental_summary- Combines the source sections for a point, with each section kept independent.
describe_environmental_layers- Describes the source layers the service reads.
Sources
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — National Wetlands Inventory maps, hosted by the U.S. Geological Survey Wetlands and Wildlife Information Management (WIM) program.
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Ecological Services critical habitat service: final designations (layer 0) and proposed designations (layer 2).
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — ECHO facility search and Detailed Facility Report.
The service reads fixed public agency endpoints directly. It uses no source account or API key and does not depend on any other GovBot service.
Limits in brief
- No wetland delineation, jurisdictional determination, permit, legal or Endangered Species Act consultation result, Phase I or II environmental assessment, engineering certification or contamination or safety guarantee.
- Gaps in mapping or no mapped features do not establish absence.
- When a source is unavailable or returns partial results, that section says so.
Full limitations are in the product guide. See also the privacy notice and terms of use.
